This place is just really nice to sit and relax when having Lunch! Plenty of seating for your party. Our waiter Carlton was excellent. Very attentive and courteous which says a lot about the service! The food is also really good and with generous portions to make sure you do not leave hungry. Nice atmosphere, great service, good food equals a memorable time! You can’t go wrong here.

We stopped here for a quick lunch before our ATV rental and it was good. Honestly, I am only giving it four stars because I had so much good food while staying in Custer and this place just didn’t live up to the other meals I experienced.

I got a buffalo burger with sweet potato fries for lunch. It was cooked well and the service was fine, albeit slow. If you are in town and looking for a quick meal, this place is great. If you have more time or the ability to cook at home, maybe do that instead.

Excellent food and service. Restaurant was clean and well staffed. Clean bathrooms. I ordered the Walleye which was tasty and well prepared. Make sure you save room for their delicious desserts. Parking is a bit limited.

We are here from Seattle and really enjoyed this place! Skyler is a Fantastic bartender who knows how to mix a delicious drink (try his Bloody Mary!) and he has a great personality. The food here is delicious as well. Be sure and try the stuffed mushrooms!! We had a 5-star experience with both of our visits and will be back next time we’re in town.

Edit 8/16/22-both of the cards we used to pay with at this restaurant have been used again in the restaurant without our approval. We live very far away and it definitely wasn’t us. I have tried to contact them on every outlet available, several times. I have received no response and have since had to cancel both cards. Total hassle and I have no idea if it was theft or what because no one responded to ANY of my messages. Sad because I really liked this place and hoped to return. If I do it will be cash only, I won’t be letting my card out of my sight. 😔

Very nice staff. Food was great. Restaurant is clean and decorated in such an amazing way that is perfect for the area. So many cool things to look at while you sit and dine. Restaurant, bar, upstairs or deck seating available, all are equally cool but the deck is amazing on a good weather day! We visited twice in the 2 days we were there. We sat in the bar area and ordered a Chicken Caesar wrap with garlic Parmesan fries and a Bison Burger with slaw the first visit. Everything was delicious, just wish we would have asked for a m/w burger because it was just slightly over cooked. Still delicious tho! We had Blue Moon drafts and they were cold, fresh and garnished correctly. I also got a Long Island Tea and it was perfect. The next day we just stopped in for some beers and nachos on the deck. Nachos are huge and come with all the perfect toppings! Deck closed early tho so we didn’t stay long enough to try anything else. Everyone here was very friendly. I really want to compliment the host staff that makes you feel immediately welcome upon entry. We got there late the first night, after a long drive. We were turned away with dirty looks by 2 other restaurants. The young man was smiling when we walked in the Buglin’ Bull and said we serve up until 10, no problem come on in! The server didn’t treat us like a pain either. Nor anyone else. I could tell the manager took pride in his job as I observed him interacting with the staff and guests. The bar and bar furniture is a must see if passing through. Just an amazing little place that I’m so happy we stumbled on while visiting Custer! Thanks for the great experience! (I was too tired to remember pics of the first meal, but these are from the deck!)

Been looking for a TRULY GREAT burger since we moved to the Black Hills ten years ago and finally found it at Burger and Bun! Everything we ordered was delicious and had layers of flavor. You can tell every offering on the menu was created with love, care and attention to detail. Thank you to the owners and staff for making our experience one to look forward to again.

Thought we could just walk in and be seated, we were wrong. They are so busy they told us it was going to be 80 minutes. We heard from everyone we asked waiting to get in say, “its totally worth the wait”. Our group was hesitant, but ultimately decided to wait. I got the Double D Bison Burger and oh my gosh was it scrumptious! It honestly was the best burger anyone in our group of 7 adults have had. I can tell you, next time we are out here we will be back and it will be more then once. Also, the staff was absolutely fantastic. Super friendly and very attentive. Well done guys, well done!!🍔🤤

Seriously one of the best burgers I’ve ever had and I’m normally not a huge burger person! The hot granny was phenomenal! Best part was definitely the fried pickles and the special sauce it came with!! If I’m ever in the area this is the first place I’m coming back to!

    Detailed Description:
    Ambience: 4⭐
    Value of money: 5⭐
    Choices: 5 ⭐
    Taste:5 ⭐

The Black Hills Burger and Bun Co is well-known in it’s bison 🦬 burger 🍔. For those who craves for bison burger, this is one of the best burger dine-in place I ever in the US so far.

First and foremost, I rated 4 ⭐ for the ambience of it primarily because of the limited size of the restaurant and also the short operating hours. Given the size of it and also the high popularity, if you would love to enjoy the burger in the restaurant, you might want to plan ahead.

Talking about the value of money, the burgers provided were definitely worth the penny. The burger and fries are decent. Most importantly, they were not overpriced.

In terms of choices, one of the uniqueness of the Black Hills B &B co is the choices they offer. They don’t just have the classic burger, they do have some unique burgers like The Hot Granny, the combinations with juicy bison patty, sweet and sour cream cheese and sweet-spicy jalapeno sauce make the burger one of a kind.

The burgers 🍔 I had were delicious! You might be worried about the burgers toppings would actually seem odd. Believe it or not, they tastes so astonishingly delicious and great! I bet you would be craving for it again after having it.

Lastly, I would strongly recommend them if you ever visit to South Dakota.

We really enjoyed our burgers from here. The wait for a table was long but we were happily served some take out. It did not disappoint. The menu is creative and leaves you wanting to visit again to try some of the other choices! I opted for the Hot Granny with bison. It was very tasty but also a messy burger. Don’t try to eat this on the road, it requires your full attention! We also enjoyed the cheese curds. Service was fast and friendly. While certainly a great burger joint, I don’t know that I’d go as far to say they have the best burgers in the country, as they’ve been crowned by Trip Advisor. I definitely will visit again next time I’m in Custer. Hopefully when that happens, they will have dinner hours available!

Food here was delicious!! The service was amazing and I wish we could go back! They offer a nice menu with decent pricing to start. Very nice dining with a awesome book shelf with games to play while waiting. All of our food was perfect. The restaurant is also connected to a very neat store!

Great food, and cute patio with downtown views and flower boxes! 🙂 The fried green beans appetizer was so freakin’ good!! And the sauces were a perfect compliment to these “fries.” Could eat them all day! We both had the BLT pasta – also very good. I had this with chicken, my mother had this with shrimp. Keep in mind, they don’t take reservations. We assumed we would need one because of the holiday weekend – we tried calling several times, but no one answered the phone. Custer is pretty small though, so it was easy enough to stop by and ask on our way through town. They recommended we arrive around 5 or a little before if we wanted to avoid the dinner rush. So we did…and sure enough, perfect timing to not have to wait for a patio table. 🙂 Would definitely recommend, and would go back if I were to visit Custer again.

We had a great meal. The food is fresh, and prepared to order. We had to wait a bit (they were pretty busy) but it was worth the wait.

We had the falafel burger with side salad. The burger was laced with garlic and very tasty. We also had the pasta Alfredo with spinach and shrimp. It may not have been the best Alfredo sauce I’ve ever had but it was definitely very tasty.

Exceeded all expectations!!! Everything was perfect and tasteful. The Mango Cider was delicious. And, yes, it really is the best bread pudding I’ve ever tasted. The service was great and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming.

Our favorite restaurant was Wine Cellar, but after eating at Skogen, this is the best that we’ve been to in the black hills!
This is fine dining at its best, but the atmosphere isn’t pretentious and there’s no need to dress fancy.

The flavors of everything we ordered were outstanding, to include the popcorn ice cream! The waiter was fantastic and very educated on the menu items.
    5 stars well earned!!

This small town restaurant has a big city menu with stellar execution. It was a charming and amazing experience we never expected to find in Custer SD. The restaurant is modern and cozy. Our server was fantastic and educated with the menu. We enjoyed 3 courses and each item we ate was delicious, cooked to perfection. Don’t sleep on the butter cake. We couldn’t have had a better time at Skogen. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Gem of a place! The veal cheek was quite possibly the most tender moist piece of meat I have had in my life. Oh and the Pineapple Sorbet was light but packed with Flavor!!

This Chef and his team deserve a Michelin Star!

My server Chris and his colleagues were also very attentive and kind!

Thanks for all the deliciousness! Will definitely return.

Bravo! What a symphony of flavors in our mouths — layered with just the right amount of high notes and full resonating flavors! Some of the best meals we’ve ever had. We found Skogen Kitchen on Yelp after touring Crazy Horse Monument. We were greeted by the owner, Eliza, who was warm and very lovely. She was able to accommodate us quickly at their last table (reservations are highly recommended as there is limited seating). The atmosphere was very clean, contemporary with attractive decor. We started our meal with the salad and oysters. My husband had the duck and I had the pork shank. We were so impressed that we returned the following evening – enjoying their seasonal menu change. We started with the asparagus soup, and for the main course we had rabbit and the filet. The featured main course items were outstanding, but the artistry of the accompanied vegetables and sauces created flavors to unmatched perfection — Joseph knows what he’s doing. Wish we had room for dessert! Too bad we live in Ohio, as we would become regulars. The entire staff went above and beyond to cater to the patrons. There was a sense of community as you recognized the regulars by the conversations with the staff. You could tell they all enjoyed working there by the constant smiles on their faces. Bravo, Joseph and Eliza! Wishing you much more success!

Stumbled upon online by complete accident and knew I had to visit when in Custer. We were able to get a reservation somewhat easily the day before in March, but I would imagine it could be a different story in the busy season. The completely unassuming exterior is somewhat responded to by the cozy yet convivial atmosphere inside. We were greeted immediately by a bright and friendly hostess who, along with our wonderful waiter, provided exceptional service throughout the experience. The food is absolutely amazing, and is likely the best in the state of South Dakota. There is a really unique blend of Scandinavian, French, and (I think) local influences which was both invigorating and divine. It’s been about two weeks since I ate here and I cannot stop thinking about it, a hallmark of a superb restaurant for me. I cannot wait to return! I hope they consider offering a tasting menu as I wished I could have tried more!

I’m reviewing this nice restaurant from my previous experience. It’s a beautiful restaurant. Of course, the food is usually more basic and simple. I’m from California. This previous experience was from my trip to some states in the west. The restaurant is located near some nice trees that look so country and mysterious at night. If you walk into the Mexican restaurant, you will see plenty of decoration and my bus tour group was feeling easy and relaxed at such a late part of night. For dinner, I decided to go with the beef steak fajita. Even our bus tour guide did not know what my food was, at first. Then, when me and the rest of the group saw the beef steak fajita, it was all working like magic. Like I’ve said, they serve mostly basic and simple food here. The fajita sauce is very unique. What’s interesting, is the chips and salsa, because the chips and salsa also come with beans for dipping. I don’t see beans with chips and salsa very often in California. That’s very interesting. Having beans with mild red salsa does take the edge off of a long trip into this rural area. If you’re traveling to Custer, make sure you don’t drink too much and make sure you bring a nice pillow. It’s good for a bus tour trip. When visiting the restaurant I was noticing the decorations on the walls. The environment is very comfortable. From the rumors I hear, restaurants in Custer close earlier for the night. Nevada and Arizona have more late-night entertainment. As we were going by on our bus I saw a nice little pizza restaurant close to Maria’s Mexican restaurant. Custer is most certainly a place for country comfort. Maria’s Mexican restaurant serves soup, fajitas, tacos, burritos and not much else. The restaurant could’ve done better with sauces and spices. We have to keep in mind that this is a Mexican restaurant in a small town near lots of trees near Mount Rushmore. I was enjoying the experience late last year around fall schedule. It was easy to be happy with other guests and the hard-working crew. In fact, I was waiting a long time for my beef steak fajita because the restaurant was working later than usual. It was a privilege to taste their wonderful steak and sauce combination. Our trip was still exhausting for me a week later. You can get drink refills, hot soup, and people who go with the flow. There was so much excitement for all of us, and, we were hungry for another bite. I’m already very familiar with the basic Mexican food items such as tacos and burritos and I hope customers really enjoy them in this part of America. They should get more nachos. That’s for sure! I’ve been to better Mexican restaurants. But, for the pleasure, and, for the trip, it was a memorable moment at Maria’s Mexican restaurant.

We were in Custer one night and decided to have Mexican. At Maria’s we were greeted by a friendly waitress. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed chips, salsa and refried beans. Our waitress checked on us several times while waiting for our food. Our food was delivered hot. We enjoyed the quesadilla and chimichanga!

We were heading for the Mexican Bistro down the street when we found Maria’s, checked the menu posted on the window and decided to have lunch here. Oh, were we rewarded for that decision. The service was super and the food was excellent true Mexican cuisine. The interior was very tastefully decorated. There was a wonderful collage of pictures, some painted-some photographs, to keep you occupied while your meal is being prepared. If you are in Custer and like Mexican food, don’t miss Maria’s. Also important; it is family owned and operated.

Great service and the food is good (not great) at this restaurant right on the main strip of town. We got the beef tacos, beef tamales and chicken strips for the kid, and there is tons of meat in the tamales. I love that they serve beans with the salsa and chips. My taco shells were stale, but otherwise the flavor was good.

I was pleasantly surprised by the large portions and how fresh the ingredients are. We ordered take out and it was ready in ten minutes. Very good and a lot of food for the $ . I was surprised when they asked me how much I wanted to tip them over the phone before I arrived . I usually wait to tip after I get to the restaurant so I can get a feel of the service that is being provided. I like to tip well when it’s exceptionally good. I feel like I would have been more generous then the regular 20 percent if I had known how good the food was going to be.
