If your on the fence, get off and make your appointment.4 months agoThis is an amazing little barbershop. It’s aviation themed and it has a small mom and pop feel to it. The staff are very friendly and personable. I love that they take the time to do your hair and make it the perfect cut. I will be coming back for sure.

3 weeks agoOnce again, Petra gave me a quality haircut. I don’t have that much hair left to cut, but she always does exactly what I want, especially with my beard. Her friendly demeanor & engaging conversation make every time I go to The Barber Pole a great experience. I have recommended The Barber Pole & especially Petra many times in the year & a half I have been frequenting it; hopefully some of my colleagues have availed themselves of her skills!a month agoSo, I do want to preface this review by saying that my hair looks okay, but I did not have a good experience with Hailey. Hailey is the younger tattooed hairdresser with a bright orange shag haircut. I showed a picture and even physically pulled my hair back to show how I wanted it to lay, and somehow got something completely different. Also, i specifically asked for my cut to accentuate my curls, and literally the first thing she did was aggressively comb through my mostly dry hair to the point I could hear strands breaking throughout. And she cut off so much more than we talked about!! The worst part was her getting defensive and arguing with me when I saw the final result, saying verbatim: “well, i can’t put it back, so”. I would absolutely not recommend this place if you’re looking for a haircut that’s specific, and I absolutely would NEVER go here if you have curly hair and are looking for it to be cut with that in mind. So disappointed! My scalp hurts from the aggressive combing, there’s nobody you can escalate a complaint to at this shop, and on top of wasted money, I lost about two years’ worth of growth. For reference, I asked for something close to a mullet, with the sides shorter and longer in the front and back. do NOT go to Hailey!2 months agoI was a walk-in and was not prepared for what I walked into. Didn’t get my stylist’s name nor did she get mine. She irritably asked me what I wanted done and was baffled by my reply that I only wanted my hair cleaned up and a little shorter on the sides. (My standard direction to whoever cuts my hair) she said “this is a haircut, of course it’s going to be shorter.”This was when I knew I was in trouble.
She had the middle chair, the stylists on either side seemed pleasant enough but my assigned stylist was either shaking with rage, the Jakes, or perhaps battling a serious caffeine addiction. When using the clippers on my head she used a technique I’m unfamiliar with, one that can best be described as stochastic and unpleasant. Her work with the sheers followed a similar pattern. Her erratic movements were so intense that at one point she smacked her own earring off her head with the clippers. It was around this point that she decided the commercials playing on radio were not loud enough, they very much were, so she stopped the haircut to fish out an ancient tape player radio combo from under a piece of furniture and turn it up to an irresponsible volume.
Naturally, the stylist next to me, who was actually talking to her client and attempting to make his experience enjoyable, had to ask her to turn it down a little. When my stylist ignored her, the other woman stopped her cut to turn it down herself.
This did not go well.
An argument ensued which was a bit like watching a toddler argue nonsense with an adult. One side had reasoned and tempered responses (I cannot hear what my customer is saying) while the other was… well… nonsense (I don’t want to hear your conversations all day! You’re not the manager anymore!) The argument was short-lived but long enough to make everyone in the establishment uncomfortable. Around this time I had caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and realized my haircut was nothing close to what I had described or desired. Enjoying the bizarreness of this encounter and apparently a glutton for punishment, I agreed when my stylist insisted on a shave even though I had previously declined several times. (I had asked for a hot shave at the beginning but upon hearing it would be done with an electric razor I said no thank you) She shaved my face with a poorly charged electric razor replicating the same cryptic technique she had used with the shears and clippers. By the end my entire face and head resembled a stray dog afflicted with mange.
(Full disclosure: my hair is thinning but not to the degree that I should seek treatment at a vet.)

I hate to give an entire establishment a one-star rating based on a single encounter with an individual stylist, but it was bad enough I thought it my civic duty to do so.
a year agoI usually get my beard cut somewhere else but had to try a new impromptu spot due to going out to dinner. This place only does walk in so it was perfect. As you can expect there were some clients waiting, sign in and just be patient if you want a cut. Connie cut my beard and listened to everything I asked for. She was very nice and attentive, I’d go and get my cut here again for sure.a week agoCash only, appointments are not necessary. It’s abput as straightforward as it gets. Seems like the last standing no frills barbershop.

a month agoMy son is on the spectrum and very timid about having his hair cut. Ms. Sherell did an amazing job with my son and his hair cut looks amazing. We will be back to see her again.6 months agoPhone rings, young lady answers and I hear well we do not take appointments, so sitting for about 45 min watching the lobby get less and less crowded. It down to me yay. 5 stylists 3with customers 2 cleaning up. Another customer walks in puts his info into the system then sits down, Stylist finishes with her client and checks him out, she looks at the screen and asks the gentleman that just came in his name, then asks for mine after I tell her she asks if I am getting my hair cut, I say yes (now mind you when you sign in it asks this question and if your not your name does not appear on the jumbo tron but yep there I am on the list waiting for a hair cut, but she calls the other gentleman to go back instead of I don’t know the one that has been waiting for more than 5 min with nothing better to do (sarcasm) but maybe groceries, go home and make lunch for his kid, and or wake someone up to eat and get ready for work. Not include get the car stuff done Just saying. I am real disappointed in this establishment and will not be going back. I would rather drive the two hours to go somewhere else. Now for the stylist who cut my sons hair she did a great job. The one that changed my mind about this place is not worth the time. Words of advice … my suggestion if you go to this one watch the jumbo tron carefully.in the last weekI wish I’d known about it sooner.This became my go-to on the south side.
For the price, you really can’t do much better.
9 months agoLizz was AMAZING! I barely want to go in public anymore because of…well, the public ? and I’ve been cutting my own hair with the help of my wife for years now. And before that personal friends of mine that were cosmetologist. I think I fumbled everything from expressing what I needed as far as a haircut to getting the payment and tip correct. Patient and kind, Liz was pretty much one of the most wonderful humans I’ve encountered in general let alone just at a place of business. So she’s the five star review, though the shop was clean, entertaining, and well maintained. I did an online reservation after reading some reviews and my spot was saved and on time. You do have to check in when you get there so they know you’re there but this whole process was super easy for somebody that’s severely computer/phone illiterate. Not only was I happy with my haircut, overjoyed actually, but Liz also connected me to new product that was better than the stuff that I’ve been using. I’ve already used said product and it is definitely better than my current brand. Also Super 5 Star treatment for the price you pay considering you get the cut, wash and dry ,hot towel ,massage MVP thing! I will no longer be cutting my own hair just so I can hang out with Liz basically who was not only was a wealth of advice as far as my hair goes but also down to earth person that gave me a couple tips about settling in since I’m new to town. An asset to any shop and being a recent addition to Savannah herself definitely a wonderful new addition to Georgia as well. Thank you Lizz!
