  AGCI is an absolutely phenomenal agency. They are dedicated to ending the cycle of orphanhood, thus, their approach to adoption goes way beyond the logistics. They prepare families through detailed, science-based trainings on the realities of the challenges that adoptees face. But they also do the logistics incredibly well. From ensuring your child’s documents are translated to English (yes, some agencies leave parents trying to discern foreign language documents!), to guiding every step of the extraordinarily complex paperwork process, to hand-held support in-country, AGCI makes sure parents have the professional support needed throughout this journey. I wish I could give 10 stars.

  The application fee is high and is not refundable. It is important to talk with the agents first before applying — I was later told. Also, it appears all the children have special needs. In order to apply for international adoption through this agency, it is required that both parents are willing to travel to a developing nation for at least one week. It is not possible for one (of two) parents to travel alone. This is not stated on the application although the question about how you plan to fund the adoption is on the application.

  We could not be happier with our experience! It was 18 months from clicking the submit button on the website to holding our son. Adoption is not for the faint of heart, but the reward is that much sweeter. All the people we have interacted with at AGCI during and now post 6 year, have been high quality professionals and so caring.

  Our main contact at the agency switched out often in the beginning of the process. During the process the people were not particularly helpful, nor did they provide assistance when needed. We worked with them for over a year and a half and spent about $18,000 and in the end they said we were a great family but we couldn’t get our packet submitted to the country. When we finally had enough and couldn’t take the delay and stress any longer we asked for even a little refund, as an example the translation fee for documents never sent and they said no. In the end we left without a child, without the money and more heartbroken. Wish I could give zero stars. I would STRONGLY recommend going elsewhere.

  Amara referred people to Marshan Goodwin-Moultry, who hasn’t held a license for substance assessments since Feb. 2017. I don’t know how many families were effected by these referrals to an individual not qualified to give the pre-fostering assessments, but know he was a “preferred provider” for such assessments. His costly evaluations are worthless. How many people were either put through unnecessary additional work, or inappropiately moved forward in the process?? I don’t know if Amara will independently report him to DOH, but I did. I haven’t received assurances yet that Amara will discontinue their referrals to him. I do not know if they have any intention of reaching out to all the families they referred to him for substance assessments to let them know they were scammed. I have lost all trust in this organization.

  I have a child who got open adoption through this company. It has been 2 years since they allowed me to see my son. Based on his foster family being Caucasian and me being African American it was brought to me I couldn’t see my child because he is asking why his skin is different. This agency not one time has fought or seek any help to let me get my visits. They been going against the court order as well. Race plays a major roll here and I have family and his biological father seeking out and they won’t respond back. I do not recommend this place of business especially if you are of color. They will not work in your favor.

  Trey was very quick to get back to me and he was extremely helpful! He seemed to really care about our situation and had a lot of knowledge regarding fostering. He answered all my questions and if I didn’t understand something he was very polite and able to explain it differently.
